About Start-Up Ventures Clinic

Attention Triangle Innovators and Entrepreneurs! Do you need help protecting your great idea? Could you use some assistance figuring out a good way to structure your new business? Duke Law’s Start-Up Ventures Clinic can help.

The Duke Law School Start-Up Ventures Clinic provides legal advice and assistance to entrepreneurs and to seed and early stage entrepreneurial ventures that have not yet raised significant amounts of outside capital. The clinic assists clients in a wide variety of legal matters including company formation, intellectual property protection, commercialization strategies, and operational issues.

More specifically, clinic student attorneys provide advice and assistance to qualifying clients on a wide variety of legal issues facing start-ups, including founder equity and vesting, shareholder agreements, intellectual property assignment and licensing agreements, website terms and conditions, and other issues that new enterprises face in their start-up phase.

Office Hours

Over the course of the semester, Duke Law Start-Up Ventures Clinic will offer free, confidential office hours to answer general legal questions and point entrepreneurs to additional resources.
